Diligent Faculty:
As an accredited school, our teachers continually strive to surpass
the established standards. With sixteen-to-one teacher to student
ratio, the faculty enjoys unlimited access toward developing creative
learning environments in their classrooms. Faculty members are certified
to teach advanced placement courses; including pre-AP classes in
Math, Science and English. CHS also hosts adjunct faculty from Le
Tourneau University.

Superior Curriculum:
Our curriculum and philosophy of learning are grounded in the elements
of a Christian Classical Education. The Christian Classical curriculum,
divided into three stages of learning, best complements the three
stages of cognitive development. By incorporating the stages of
grammar, logic and rhetoric within the curriculum, our students
receive and achieve more than a base of knowledge - they are equipped
with skills that will make them lifetime learners. The classical
method allows every student to excel in core subjects and develop
critical thinking skills through Socratic dialogue that promotes
intellectual and academic growth and success. In addition, skills
in rhetoric are built from the elementary years, equipping our graduates
to communicate effectively. A Christian educational philosophy allows
our teachers to freely evaluate and adapt curriculum materials so
they most accurately express God's truth. In doing so, they seek
to inspire Biblical scholarship and independent thinking, with the
ultimate goal of interpreting the subject matter in the light of
a Biblical worldview. CHS also incorporates elements of the Principle
Approach through the use of research, reasoning, relating, and recording
the material students discover through learning. We utilize a notebook
system for every subject, developing personal responsibility for
study, critical thinking, penmanship, organization, and a correct
record of each student's progress and productivity.
-
Challenging Academics:
In association with ACSI, students in third through eighth grades
participate in district and state events like Math Olympics and
the regional Spelling Bee. The high school students also succeed
with the district Speech Meet. CHS boasts the highest percentage
of students (for this size school) to qualify for the Presidential
and National Physical Fitness Award. Many students participate in
the Duke University Talent Search and have the opportunity to take
the Eighth grade ACT test (called EXPLORE) while still in fifth
and sixth grades.
-
Competitive Results:
The Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP) allows qualifying
seventh graders to take the ACT and SAT exams with college-bound
seniors. Many CHS students who have participated in this program
receive State Level Recognition.
-
Physical Athletics: CHS offers soccer, volleyball,
basketball, softball and track on a junior and high school level.
With the benefit of a regulation-sized soccer field and track on
the school campus, CHS has risen to all-conference awards with several
students earning regional sportsmanship recognitions. One of the
highlights of the school year is the annual Sports Banquet. CHS
teams compete under the titles of the Sentinels and the Lady Sentinels.
-
Earned Recognition:
CHS students have been nominated to the Who's Who Among American
High School Students. More than half of CHS seniors are scheduled
to graduate on the Distinguished Achievement Plan offered for high
school academics. CHS seniors are offered the opportunity to take
dual credit college classes at the local universities. Flexible
schedules are accommodated to allow seniors to participate in college-site
courses.
-
Testing Achievements:
All CHS students participate in the nationally administered Stanford
Achievement Test, and place well above the national average. PSAT
and PLAN exams begin in the ninth grade, SAT and ACT exams during
the junior year.
-
Community Impact:
CHS students participate in local programs like Longview Partnership-Leadership
Tomorrow; Longview City Council-Youth Advisory Council; Longview
Partners in Prevention; State of Texas-Tomorrow's Leaders Today.
-
Christian Demonstration:
CHS students maintain a campus vegetable garden with the produce
donated to a local homeless shelter. CHS students have raised money
for a Longview student needing a new wheelchair and have purchased
books for a public school library that burned. CHS high school students
frequently mentor younger students for education and camaraderie.
