CHS Student Council

Hero DayThe CHS Student Council accomplishes its goals through the work of two committees:  School and Local Ministries.

Our School Committee addresses the needs and desires that CHS students have for our campus; students have submitted ideas for “Fun Fridays”, for upgrading our campus, and for promoting leadership skills within our student body.   Students are encouraged to submit their ideas as much as possible—we firmly believe that our student body plays an integral role in our planning process.

During the first semester, CHS Student Council organized a soccer field cleanup.  Over 20 students diligently worked to remove unwanted shrubbery, limbs, and debris from our soccer fields.   Although some of students sadly discovered that poison ivy is prevalent along the fence line, our fields looked almost professionally maintained after their labor.  Another fall project of theSoccer field cleanup SC was to assist at the Highway 80 Rescue Mission.  Close to 20 students (and some parents!) worked for almost three hours unpacking and shelving cans during their Thanksgiving break.

Our Local Ministries spring project is participating in “CanStruct,” a program whose aim is to raise community awareness of hunger in Longview.  Sponsored by Longview Community Ministries, Canstruct requires teams to build a sculpture –out of cans--at Longview Mall.  The CHS Student Council held a can drive in January challenging teams to see who could bring in the most cans; the winning team was treated to a pizza party hosted by the CHS Student Council.
